Pinar del Río city received this title on September 10, 1867, the day on which it became an adult because before, as has already been said, it was a village, a hamlet and a mercedado site like the others. In 1787 the house of the Lieutenant Governor of the New Philippines is located in what was the hill of Cuní, today Independence Park, turning it into the capital of the Jurisdiction, although only twenty houses were distinguished at that time and there would be little more than one hundred inhabitants (according to some neighbors).
