Champion of the Central American and Caribbean Games of Panama 1970 and Santo Domingo 1974. Owner of four absolute national records (16,38/16,86/16,92/17,40). Meritorious of the Order to the Olympic Merit. Member of the Central American and Caribbean Athletics Hall of Fame.
His status as the world's first Cuban absolute record holder is worth eternal reverences. In addition to inscribing him forever in the history of international sport, that triple jump of 17.40 meters with which he won the 1971 Cali Pan American Games turned him into a paradigm to be followed by his followers in a specialty full of triumphs.
Owner of a very technical style, he was hit mercilessly by injuries. He also likes basketball, is passionate about stories related to World War II, enjoys Van Van's music and is in love with medicine, which he chose as a profession. He was born on February 23, 1952 in Pinar del Río and after almost 30 years as a doctor for the national athletics team, he recently retired.
