Petrona's son, Isabel Rubio's niece, returns to her Hospital. Doctor, son of a doctor and grandson and great-grandson and one more among so many men of his family dedicated to medicine; he did honor to his profession and in such a way that in his life framed between 1885 and 1946 he was: outstanding surgeon, Director of the Sanatorium of the Spanish Colony, Rector of the Civil Hospital Raymundo Esercio Menocal, president of the Cuban Medical Council in its Pinar del Río Subsidiary, Member of the Superior Council of the Cuban Medical Federation and Delegate of the American Medical Federation.

He performed thousands of operations, introduced ether as an anesthetic and modernized the surgical equipment in the province. He did many other things for his people. Being Pinar del Río to the core and having faced Machado's reelection can be, together with his proverbial humanism, a shield for any diatribe.

There was no doubt that the brand-new Hospital of the 1950s should bear his name. The All for Pinar del Rio Committee recognized him among the most outstanding surgeons of all time and supported that decision.

Although for some years the Hospital ceased to be called Leon Cuervo Rubio, it was restored by agreement of its workers and the opinion of the doctors, who granted its merits and how, with its professionalism and humanitarian character, it increased the province prestige and the medical profession,

Already some years ago, as a just reparation, his name appears indelibly inscribed in the 50th Anniversary Clinical Surgical Hospital.
