Cirilo Villlaverde is undoubtedly, in Cuban literature, the best known among the Pinar del Rio writers of the last century; the mere mention of his novel Cecilia Valdés would justify this assertion, since the popularity of the work and its artistic stature, for the century and place in which it was created, would be the best defense of the criteria already exposed.
