The Basic Secondary School is an educational level that includes the 7th, 8th and 9th grades where the students experience a set of psycho-atomophysiological changes. It develops the integral formation of adolescents, sustained by a civic-citizen, economic and environmental care culture that allows them to love and be willing to defend the principles of the Cuban Revolution and contribute to the development of the socialist homeland.

1-Can a student at the end of the 9th grade opt for a specialty by direct award?

The National Association of Small Farmers, the Ministry of Transport and the Ministries of Construction deliver to the Provincial Direction of Education the students' proposals, which are approved in the Vocational Training and Professional Orientation Group. For it the Palaces of Pioneers certify that these students had outstanding results in the circles of interest, in the same way, it proceeds with the proposals of direct pass to the pedagogical specialties: Educator of Day Care Center , Primary Teacher,  Special Education Teacher, Teacher of English for Primary, and Teacher of Basic Secondary in the specialties Mathematics and Physics, this last one with opening in the next years to other subjects that are priority for this educational level.

For the direct pass to the Pre-university Vocational Institute of Exact Science "Federico Engels," in the province of Pinar del Río, students who obtain gold in one of the national contests of Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry or Physics have the possibility of covering one of the places awarded to the municipality where he resides, as well as the best work in the provincial contest of Geography.

The direct award is a stimulus for students who have had a sustained performance in the circles of interest, the specialty for which they choose
