This species, in danger of extinction, arrives to the zone with the objective of spawning in the sand dunes. During this time, hundreds of ecotourists, scientists, and student (volunteer) camps with environmental projects watch and monitor the nesting and subsequent birth of the offspring, 45 days after their arrival.
They especially protect the green turtle, hawksbill and loggerhead. The guides explain the event to visitors on a nocturnal tour of nine beaches, including La Barca.
In 1987 the Peninsula was declared a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO and in December 2001 the National Park was created. Since then, a strong sustainable management plan protects the resources and landscape values of flora and fauna that the park encloses.
It is a landscape full of treasures worth admiring.
